⚾ Angels’ Ron Washington Out Indefinitely Due to Health |
Angels skipper Ron Washington, 73, has stepped away from managing indefinitely due to a health issue—reported shortness of breath and fatigue—during their recent Yankees series and is undergoing tests before being cleared for a return.
Los Angeles General Manager Perry Minasian emphasized Washington will stay with the team but won't manage until he's “100%” good to go, with bench coach Ray Montgomery stepping in as acting manager.
Despite this unexpected absence, the Angels remain close to .500 (36-39) and seem determined to keep things rolling in his absence. |
🏒 Jets, C Jonathan Toews Agree to One-Year Deal |
Veteran center Jonathan Toews, fresh off a two-year hiatus fighting long COVID and Chronic Immune Response Syndrome, has agreed to a one-year deal with his hometown Jets—officially kicking in on July 1 when free agency opens.
The former Blackhawks captain—who led Chicago to three Stanley Cups and wore the “C” from 2008 to 2023—brings a trophy-laden pedigree alongside Conn Smythe and Selke hardware.
The base contract is reportedly $2 million, with performance bonuses tied to games, playoffs, and a deep run—making the deal potentially worth up to $5 million.
For the Jets, fresh off a Presidents’ Trophy season, adding a decorated center like Toews could be the missing ingredient for a deep playoff push. | 🏈 Wisconsin Sues Miami Over Alleged Tampering |
The University of Wisconsin and its NIL collective have filed a lawsuit in Wisconsin state court against the University of Miami, accusing the Hurricanes of tampering with former Badgers cornerback Xavier Lucas.
The complaint alleges that Miami coaches or affiliates reached out to Lucas and his family in December and January—before he entered the transfer portal—and induced him to abandon his agreement with Wisconsin by offering a sweeter deal.
Wisconsin, backed by the Big Ten, is seeking unspecified financial and reputational damages and aims to set a legal precedent for enforcing NIL-related anti-tampering rules in college athletics.
Miami has not responded publicly to the allegations. |
