 | Good morning! 👋
It’s Sunday, July 6. On this day in 1933, MLB's first All-Star Game at Comiskey Park saw the AL beat the NL 4-2, with Babe Ruth's two-run homer boosting baseball's popularity during the Great Depression.

 | ⚾ Former White Sox Closer Bobby Jenks Passes Away |
Bobby Jenks, the hard-throwing closer who sealed the White Sox’s first World Series title in 88 years, passed away on Friday in Portugal after a courageous battle with Stage 4 stomach cancer at just 44 years old.
A two-time All-Star in 2006 and 2007, Jenks saved 173 games in six seasons with the White Sox and became a fan favorite with a 102 mph fastball and his dominant postseason presence.
After retiring from MLB in 2011 — including a stint with the Red Sox — he transitioned into coaching and managing, earning Pioneer League Manager of the Year honors in 2022.
The White Sox and former teammates remembered him as both a fierce competitor and a loving father of six — a “big teddy bear” off the field and a legend on it. |
⚾ Yankees' Clarke Schmidt Likely to Have Tommy John Surgery |
Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt is expected to undergo his second Tommy John surgery after an MRI revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, following forearm tightness that landed him on the injured list.
New York Manager Aaron Boone described Schmidt as “obviously devastated,” but praised his mindset to “flip the script” and commit fully to rehab.
The procedure will sideline him for the rest of 2025 and likely most (if not all) of 2026—a significant blow to a rotation already missing Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil.
In the short term, Yankees No. 10 prospect Cam Schlittler is expected to fill Schmidt’s spot in the rotation as a struggling New York looks ahead to the July 31 trade deadline. |
🏀 VJ Edgecombe Overshadows Ace Bailey in Summer League Debut |
76ers No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe stole the spotlight in his NBA Summer League debut on Saturday night, dropping 28 points with 10 boards and 4 assists in just 29 minutes—complete with a show‑stopping dunk.
Meanwhile, Jazz No. 5 overall pick Ace Bailey showed flashes of athleticism and effort but struggled to find his rhythm, finishing with just 8 points on 3-for-13 shooting.
Despite Utah pulling out the narrow 93-89 win, Edgecombe’s explosive display firmly announced him as the night’s superstar—while Bailey left with more questions than answers. |
