 | 🏀 Duke Makes NBA Draft History With Entire Starting Five Selected |
Duke basketball’s 2024–25 starting five all heard their names called in this year’s NBA Draft—three in the lottery and the other two early second round—marking only the third time ever that an entire college unit has been drafted in the same year.
Cooper Flagg went No. 1 to Dallas, Kon Knueppel slid in at No. 4 to Charlotte (staying close to Durham), and Khaman Maluach landed at No. 10 via Phoenix.
Then in round two on Thursday night, Sion James and Tyrese Proctor wrapped it up for Duke, selected by Charlotte and Cleveland, respectively. See full draft results.
It’s a rare feat—only UConn in 2006 and Kentucky in 2012 have previously seen their full starting five drafted in one draft. | 🏈 NFL Suspends K Justin Tucker 10 Weeks for Conduct Policy Violation |
The NFL slapped free-agent kicker Justin Tucker with a 10-week suspension—starting roster-cutdown day, August 26—after finding he breached its personal conduct policy amid allegations of misconduct.
Although Tucker, 35, denies the accusations and has chosen not to challenge the discipline, he’ll remain ineligible for games until he’s reinstated on November 11.
He’s still free to sign with a team and attend camp or preseason, but won’t receive pay during the suspension. | ⚾ Mets’ Griffin Canning Appeared to Suffer Significant Achilles Injury |
Mets starting pitcher Griffin Canning was pulled in the third inning on Thursday night after collapsing in obvious pain while backing up third base, with the ballclub fearing a potentially serious Achilles injury.
The 29‑year‑old, who had delivered 2⅔ scoreless innings, dropped to the turf clutching his left leg, was assisted off by trainers, and is headed for an MRI to determine the severity.
News reports indicate this could be another blow to first-place New York’s rotation, already missing Kodai Senga, Tylor Megill, and Sean Manaea.
The nature and timing of the imaging will be key to assessing how long Canning might be sidelined. |
