Good morning! 👋
It’s Monday, June 16. On this day in 2002, Tiger Woods cruised to a dominant U.S. Open win, becoming the first player since Jack Nicklaus in 1972 to capture the year’s first two majors with a three-stroke victory at Bethpage Black.

⚾ Red Sox Deal Franchise Cornerstone Devers to Giants |
In a jaw-dropping move on Sunday night, the Red Sox traded their franchise cornerstone, Rafael Devers, to the Giants for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, plus prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello.
The three-time All-Star, who inked a 10-year, $313.5 million deal in 2023, was reportedly at odds with Boston’s front office over positional changes, paving the way for this blockbuster.
The Giants, desperate for a big bat, are banking on Devers’ .272/.401/.504 slash line to boost their NL West chase, while Boston looks to retool with younger talent. |
⛳ J.J. Spaun Wins 2025 U.S. Open |
Nine-year PGA Tour pro J.J. Spaun, a 34-year-old LA native and San Diego State alum, captured his first major at the 125th U.S. Open held at Oakmont in near-historic fashion on Sunday.
Trailing early with five bogeys in the first six holes of Sunday's final round, he reeled off clutch birdies on 12, 14, 17 and a dramatic 64-foot bomb on the 18th to finish at 1‑under—clinching victory by two strokes over Robert MacIntyre.
Amid rain delays and relentless pressure, Spaun sank the longest putt of the tournament and became the lone sub‑par finisher—earning the $4.3 million winner’s share. Watch putt.
Spaun’s redemption arc was complete after falling just short at The Players Championship earlier this year, solidifying his status as golf’s newest major champion. | ⚾ Coastal Carolina Reaches CWS Semifinals; Louisville Survives |
Red-hot Coastal Carolina kept the streak alive, riding Jacob Morrison’s seven-inning gem to a 6-2 win over Oregon State on Sunday night—its 25th straight victory—and punched the first ticket to the College World Series semifinals.
Meanwhile, Louisville survived elimination by rallying for a six-run eighth inning to knock out Arizona 8-3, securing their first postseason win in Omaha since 2019.
The Cardinals now face Oregon State in an elimination game Tuesday, while the surging Chanticleers get two days’ rest before facing the winner. |
