Good morning! 👋
It’s Saturday, July 19. On this day in 1910, Cy Young—then pitching for the Cleveland Naps—became the first and only MLB pitcher to reach 500 career wins, beating the Washington Senators 5–2 in 11 innings.
Today’s newsletter is presented by Pepper Pong, a portable ping pong set that turns any surface into a game arena for fun anywhere. See it here.

⚾ Braves’ Acuna Jr. Stuns Yankees with Rocket Throw |
Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. reminded everyone exactly why he’s the gold standard in right field on Friday night.
With Atlanta up 3–0 on the Yankees in the third, he calmly caught the ball in deep right, spun, and unleashed a perfect a perfect 301‑foot missile—on the fly—to nab Jorbit Vivas at third for a jaw‑dropping inning-ending double play. See video.
Braves skipper Brian Snitker called it “like a Roberto Clemente throw” and praised Acuna’s elite arm accuracy. That gun helped Atlanta shut down a budding Yankees rally and power their 7–3 series-opening win. |
⛳ Scheffler’s Storm Stomps Field at The Open |
Scottie Scheffler lit up Royal Portrush in Round 2 of the British Open on Friday, unleashing a 7‑under 64—the lowest round of his major career—to surge into a one‑shot lead at –10 overall.
In typical composed fashion, the world No. 1 holed eight birdies in blustery conditions and now looks every bit a serious contender for his first Claret Jug.
Matt Fitzpatrick sits just one behind at –9 after a solid 66, while Brian Harman and Haotong Li trail by two and are the closest challengers.
Rory McIlroy managed a gritty 69 to stay within weekend striking distance at –3, but faces a steep climb if he’s to catch Scheffler this weekend. |
🏀 Pelicans' First-Rounder Queen Has Wrist Surgery |
New Orleans’ No. 13 overall pick, rookie center Derik Queen, underwent successful surgery Friday to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in his left wrist—injured during Summer League play in Vegas.
The 20‑year‑old Maryland standout, who averaged 14 pts and 11 rebs over three Summer League games, now faces a 12‑week recovery window that will likely wipe out his first taste of training camp and possibly the start of the regular season.
New Orleans will re‑evaluate his progress before camp rolls around, hoping this setback doesn’t derail their early‑season chemistry. |
