 | ⚾ Athletics' Nick Kurtz Becomes 1st Rookie to Hit 4 HRs in a Game |
Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz turned in one of the greatest individual performances in MLB history last night, going 6‑for‑6 with four home runs, eight RBIs, and 19 total bases in a 15–3 rout of the Astros.
He made history as the first rookie ever to hit four homers in a single game, joining just 19 others in MLB history, and tied the all‑time total bases record set by Shawn Green in 2002.
At just 22 years old and barely a year removed from being the No. 4 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Kurtz's power surge and flawless night define modern legend status in the sport.
🎥 Watch: Kurtz's homers (YouTube) | 🏈 Shemar Stewart Ends Holdout, Signs Rookie Deal With Bengals |
The holdout saga is over: Shemar Stewart officially signed his rookie contract with the Bengals, agreeing to a four-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $18.97 million, including a $10.4 million signing bonus.
The rookie defensive end—picked No. 17 overall out of Texas A&M—stalled camp participation over disputed contract language that could void future guarantees.
The compromise? Stewart accepted Cincinnati’s revised clause in exchange for an extra $500K advanced in his signing bonus.
As the final first-rounder to sign, Stewart's deal closes the book on rookie negotiations and sets him up to join training camp poised for a starting spot on a Bengals defense eager for youth and pass-rush potential. |
⚽ MLS Suspends Messi, Alba for Skipping All-Star Game |
MLS slapped Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba with a one‑game suspension for skipping the MLS All‑Star Game without prior approval, making them ineligible for Inter Miami’s match against East–leading FC Cincinnati tonight.
According to league policy, any selected player who doesn’t participate unless cleared in advance is automatically sidelined for the next club fixture.
Inter Miami’s owner Jorge Mas blasted the ruling as “draconian,” saying the club rested the duo amid a brutal schedule and should not be penalized for prioritizing player health.
Meanwhile, MLS Commissioner Don Garber acknowledged Messi’s impact on the league and promised a “hard look” at the policy in collaboration with players going forward. |
